Acronyms List Update

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

I’ve updated the acronyms list quite a bit.  About 100 on the list now.  I’ll slowly flesh it out with additional acronyms and abbreviations.  I’ll also add in relevant links such as those for organizations.  Send me any acronyms that you think I should add to the list.

New Look

As I said before I would be changing the site around as I started to get settled.  This is theme 119 put together by Free WordPress Themes.  The website is iwordpressthemes.com.

I felt the site needed a bit more color.  The picture will change and a few other little things may change here and there.  Plus now I’ve put up a nice easy link on the right to sign up for the RSS Feed.  That’ll make things easier.

Any suggestions on things that could make this site work better for you?  What are some things that you would like to see on here?

More Acronyms

I posted some more acronyms to the acronyms page. Even more will be coming soon.

Acronyms

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Civil engineering has its own language.  It’s full of acronyms and abbreviations that don’t always have an obvious definition.  Even in school, professors will use them without explaining them unless a student asks.

A bit of searching on the internet will help you find most of them.  But to make things easier I’m compiling a list.  You can find the link to my Acronyms and Definitions page in the column on the right.

There is a lot that still needs to be added to the list.  What else needs to be there?  Send me your acronyms.  Include the definitions if you have them.

Welcome back.

I’ll start off with a little information about me.  I graduated last year (2008) with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering.  I had an internship during school.  (I’ll sing the praises of internships in a later article.)  Now I do design work as an EIT for a great civil engineering consulting firm in San Antonio, Texas.

I work mainly in the transportation area of civil engineering.  So, even though most of what I talk about will apply to all areas of civil engineering, there might be a small slant toward transportation.

I’m certainly no expert, but one of the great things about this industry is that there is always something new to learn.  Many of the great new things I learn will become a part of this site in hopes that I can help others learn something new too.  And if you have a great idea for something that everyone should know about, then let me know.  We’ll see what we can do to help others learn.

My next post will be more on education.  Stay tuned.

Welcome to my civil engineering blog

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

I started this blog for several reasons. The main reason is that there are not many blogs out there for civil engineers. Especially for you young engineers and future engineers that have a lot of questions that can be hard to answer on your own.

So, because of that, this blog will cover things such as studying for the FE, useful information for once you start working in the industry, and articles and news on current CE trends and developments.

By the way, expect to see many changes to this site in the near future. I have plans for new tools and sections to add. Plus the look and feel of the site will begin to evolve.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to sharing a lot of information with you and learning a lot from you as well.
